This gorgeous terracotta citadel on the unspoilt western coast of Tenerife is resplendent in acres of beautiful botanical gardens with stunning sweeping views over the ocean and the neighbouring island of La Gomera.

In the main hotel or ‘Citadel’ you will find huge rooms with large balconies and beautiful marble bathrooms overlooking swimming pools, palm groves and the golf course. If you require more privacy, rooms and suites can be found in the separate and more exclusive ‘Villas’ area (located away from the main hotel). One row of Villas, "The Tagor` Villas", are the height of luxury; these select rooms and suites occupy an exclusive row of the villa area accommodation, which are just for adults. The Tagor’ Villas are designed to offer guests greater privacy both inside and in the swimming pool and terrace areas.  All the rooms and suites in the Citadel have recently been refurbished and exciting developments include new two bedroom Family Suites and the addition of a tranquil pool to the Persian Gardens for the Club Level guests. Both the living room and guestroom has a 42 inch flat screen TV and CD player. The suite features the new bed experience and Bulgari amenities in the bathroom and leather slippers. The Villa suite has access to a shared pool and guests staying in the Villa suite receives a voucher for the VIP Lounge at TFS airport.

Tagor Villa Deluxe Room Resort/Ocean View

Child Care

Ritz Kids
Ritz Kids is one of the largest children`s clubs in Europe offering eight diverse zones created to challenge and develop the minds of younger guests. There`s everything from astronomy to local wildlife; sustainability to the latest in technology; theatrical skills to arts and crafts; all of which can be discovered and enjoyed in the fabulous new facility.

The indoor zones are segmented and range from Relax and Nap to The Theatre Space and Scientific Area. Outside in the The Garden Space, there are football sessions, water play and traditional outdoor games.

Age 4-12 years
Complimentary daily between 10am and 6pm.
From 6pm to midnight there is a charge of 8EUR per child/hour.
Reservations* are required and sessions must be specified (i.e. cookies workshop, talent show etc.).
Lunch and dinner at Ritz Kids club is available upon request and with a charge of 14EUR per child/meal. Dinner is complimentary if the child is staying on half board.

Babysitting available on request at a charge of €20 per family, per hour (subject to change).

Age 13-18 years
Only available during school holidays or high occupancy period. Schedule will be defined for each period. Programme of activities inside and outside.

Children`s golf and tennis classes (from 8 years) are available.

*The hotel expect a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellations. If children fail to turn up, all future sessions will be cancelled. Children are expected to arrive within 10 minutes of the session start times, otherwise the space will be given to another child.

We’d been before when the Abama was not part of the Ritz Carlton chain. Although much was similar, the feel was slightly less personable this time. Breakfast is very good at the Abama. The evening meal restaurant options are much improved, with half-board covering almost everything we ate for dinner. However, we didn’t venture into the two highest priced options – price being the key word, here! The hotel caters extremely well for small children, but we noticed our son (age 10) didn’t have much to keep him entertained – nor were there many other similar aged children to befriend. He was content with the pools, but these seemed colder than the advertised 26 degrees. Our one beef was noise from adjacent rooms. More precisely, very noisy teenagers who were drunk in the corridors and room(s) well beyond 10pm and through until the small hours. Yes, the hotel moved us, but the second room alternatives were still on the noisy side. Being early June, the flies from the nearby banana plantation were much reduced from when we visited at Easter time.

Plenty of very good restaurants within the complex but need to book tables in advance. If you like golf the course is a massive challenge and a must play - even a bad game is compensated by the views !

This was a repeat visit and lived up to expectations as usual. Everything was wonderful. The staff really make or break a hotel and the staff here are so well trained and yet so friendly. It is obvious that they enjoy their work by their attitude to guests and each other and also that many of them have been at the hotel for many years.
The other thing that really makes things so pleasant is the brilliant, efficient, friendly team at Travelbeam. They make booking so simple and always return calls and emails quickly. Always recommend them to anyone. Can`t wait to re book!

The room was perfect, very comfortable with lovely views, complimented with charming room service. Where we felt the hotel perhaps let itself down was the the sheer congestion of people, particularly when it came to the restaurants. I do appreciate that this was peak time and the hotel is undergoing some works (so leading to a temporary reduction in restaurant capacity), but then at the same time this level of demand could hardly have caught the hotel by surprise. Thankfully we had the use of our semi-private pool rather than the main hotel one which was far too crammed. To basically charge the same prices (and by no means is it cheap) and for any customer frustration to be met with casual shrugs of indifference did smack of a certain arrogance and a sub-standard level of service. Although we did have a very enjoyable time overall, this overcrowding and the poor attitude of some staff regrettably did have an adverse impact.

A truly amazing hotel and really well catered for under 4s. My little one was 18 months at the time and I`m a bit of an OTT mother when it comes to his food and making sure he eats right and on time. The hotel catered for his needs come every meal. The food was always hot and fresh and it took a weight of my mind knowing the food was all taken care of. The Junior Suite was perfect for the three of us. The cot was far too small for a toddler - it`s more suitable for a baby. We`d love to go back and are planning to next year - fingers crossed they have bigger ones!

Lovely resort perfect for families, the rooms are clean and spacious. We had a villa room which was lovely as it was a quieter area of the resort. The restaurants and food are of a very high standard and the children`s buffet works well. The children`s club is well thought out and lots of extra activities laid on that make each day different. The pool areas are beautiful and child friendly as well as the adult only one which has a very different feel. Overall I would say that we would definitely go back to this resort as we had a great time. The only criticism I would make is that the service in the restaurants and around the pool could be improved. Some small mistakes on orders or taking ages to serve. It sounds petty but we did seem to constantly right mistakes made with orders. Probably more staff needed around the family pool area. Also you do not expect to pay 10 euros a day for Internet access although the hotel did remove this charge at the end. I hope this feedback enables the management to right this as it would make it perfect! Having said this the staff really do work hard and make every effort to put things right. I would recommend this hotel for families and I am sure we will go back.

Rooms were excellent. One bedroom suite is great. Worked brilliantly interconnecting with my family. Staff around the pool and in restaurants were lovely, turn down man was lovely too. Guest relations lady Ilga very nice. Kids club was very good but very under staffed at peak times. Mirador was fantastic. Went twice and loved it. Loved Kabuki. Great service and food. Spa was nice, old school but very good. Not the most scenic hotel, surrounding areas and views of banana plantations isn`t beautiful. Biggest down side was that Los Chozos and beach club cannot cope at all at lunch time. We never had a lunch when all meals were delivered at the same time. They always apologised and knocked things off the bill without us even saying anything - because ultimately we weren`t that bothered - but it definitely isn`t good enough. On the last day our lunch at Los Chozos wasn`t up to scratch at all. Bits of salmon from previous diners on chairs, food on floor, felt dirty and they forgot my brother`s meal. The seafood liguine was horrible. 30 mins commute from airport is a plus.

The location and grounds of this hotel are stunning - the views are also amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful - it made the holiday special. The accommodation is of a high standard and is kept very clean. The kids club was so good my daughter kept wanting to go back. It`s not often we decide to return to a hotel but we are already booking up for next year. There were a couple of niggles but these were sorted out immediately.

We had a beautiful Junior Suite, huge clothes closet and large sunny balcony, most comfortable, most spacious. All the facilities excellently maintained and all staff most pleasant and helpful. However, we did not feel that the food in the Mirador was as good as the previous year and the service was very slow the first night we were in that restaurant. All in all though, it is still a very pleasant hotel with a beautiful beach as well as the many different swimming pools. A car is a useful addition occasionally as it is in a rather isolated position.

We had a very enjoyable week at the Abama. The rooms were a good size and plenty of room for three children in the connecting room. Even though the hotel was very busy the staff were very helpful and attentive. We would go again. It was disappointing to have to pay for WI-FI and also to use the tennis courts. A few areas around the pool were showing wear and tear and needed attention.

Stayed again at the Tagor Villas in the Abama. The villa we were allocated had been updated to give a more contemporary feel. Really lovely. The service around the pool was excellent as usual, all the staff were wonderful and very helpful. We dined in the Mirador a couple of nights and were given a great table on both nights which enabled us to enjoy the wonderful view. We cannot fault the food and again the staff were really attentive. We also dined at the Italian restaurant within the hotel and again the food was excellent. Cannot praise the staff highly enough at the Abama, always so helpful and attentive. Can`t wait for our next visit.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, hotel staff were extremely friendly throughout the hotel. Great facilities especially for families with young babies, we went when our youngest was five months. Worth going for half board too as great choice of restaurants to choose from and menus are A La`Carte. A bottle of wine in most restaurants was however on the expensive side. The kidz club was fantastic too for our daughters. Travelbeam arranged and managed our booking very well throughout very pleased with their service.

A stunning hotel in a beautiful stretch of the coastline in Tenerife. The staff couldn`t be any better and the condition of the hotel was impeccable. Restaurants were also excellent with decent ranges of food for all people especially kids. The only issue on that front is remoteness to civilisation but that is easily cured by a €5 taxi ride to San Juan. Whilst this is also a luxurious hotel they do prey on the guests and it`s remoteness by loading costs, €5 for a tube of Pringles crisps, €6 for a can of lemon ice tea for an example is taking liberties. All in all though worth a visit but make sure you are prepared for the hidden extras.

After spending a week in January on our own which was excellent, we returned in August taking the family and friends. Every bit as good and everyone was happy, how often can you say that about a group of 8 from 8yrs to 68yrs. Tagor Villas for the oldies and regular Villas for our son and his family. All the restaurants with the exception of MB were good with Kabuki the stand out. Soccer every day for the boys and unlimited golf in the summer for us it doesn`t get any better to satisfy all the family.

This was our second stay at the Abama. The golf is excellent- particular mention to the golf staff and all at the club. The villa suites are really fabulous with the new Buggy to go an excellent addition. The restaurants are sufficiently varied to make two weeks of eating out a pleasure.
There were some little issues but we are very fussy and our holiday was really superb.

Everything was perfect, the service the food , I only had one bad meal, that was at the beach. The staff were outstanding, and we have become friends with a couple of them. The hotel is very clean I believe they are updating the furnishings which will make it even better.I was very well advised by your staff, the villa was perfect for me, easy access to pool etc. it was everything I wanted, the spa was also superb. Thank you. My only gripe is Ryanair, to have a luxury holiday like that, to be delivered to the airport by limo, he helped with my bags and everything, to then have to wait for over two hours to check in, I had no time for a drink or anything! Then to get on the plane and be told they had no water, no soft drinks, if I wanted a drink of water it would be at my own risk! They had two half trolleys as opposed to five, for a four hour flight with no water and I had extremely swollen feet, I think is barbaric.
One of the staff also rammed a trolley into my Arm, I have a photo of this. Such a shame after my wonderful experience with a beautiful hotel, and the holiday I needed to get over my illness. It was spoilt by a second rate air company. If I were you, I would not use Ryanair for your luxury holidays. I would like to thank Charlotte for all her work and planning everything for me, she did a brilliant job. Thank you.

Our 2nd stay at the Abama. Love the hotel and Targor villas. The only 2 issues we had were with service. El Mirador restaurant had fabulous food but poor slow service. We did complain on the evening and the restaurant Manager dealt with this very well immediately. The buffet breakfast in the same venue for adults only was fantastic last year however this year they decided on our stay to trial an a la carte only service which was a disaster for the first 4 days of our stay. Due to guest feedback they changed back to the buffet breakfast as advertised on their website and normal service resumed. The hotel duty Manager was very helpful and took on board our feedback, so I would definitely go back a 3rd time!

We were delighted with this recent visit booked through Travelbeam. Our main contact all through the booking was Sarah Date. She was thoroughly professional ,helpful and made the whole experience easy and stress free.

The hotel deserves its reputation as it is almost impossible to find fault. The staff seem to anticipate your needs before you realise you needed anything!

I am struggling to find a negative. Oh yes,every drink that you ordered whether water,coffee or wine came with either a still warm biscuit, or a bowl of olives,crisps or nuts so we are back on the diet ready for the next visit!

Just spent 4 nights at the Abama with a gang of mums and 9year old boys.
The accommodation was perfect. Great family, kiddie friendly hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful and warm, food was good. The boys were kept busy down at the beach, in the kids club and many hours spent in and around the pool.
Big thumbs up, I would certainly go back.

Generally a very good experience. The room we had was fantastic so thank you so much for arranging. Tennis lessons worked well, as did Kids` club. Adults` only swimming pool fabulous, beach was the perfect size for the children and we really liked the Mirador restaurant. Spa also very good. Service levels excellent and the Spanish are naturally fantastic with children I would certainly consider going there again although my husband is not so sold on the resort format.
- the week we were there it was at 97% occupancy and so whilst breakfast was a fantastic feast, it was like feeding time at the zoo if you were there much after 8am
- children`s pool was over capacity - there were several days where there were no beds for us to sit on. Unless you reserved beds first thing in the morning you couldn`t get anything. Apparently, they are going to order more beds in response to this.
- the thing that I was most disappointed by was the children`s food. The buffet completely lacked variety and the food was poor; penne pasta with either Bolognese or tomato sauce, tomatos, cucumber, shredded carrot, chips, dreadful pizza. E15 for this was a complete rip off. On a couple of occasions my children were served the pasta on the main children`s menu at lunch time and I was shocked at the lack of value.

No sea view room on the first night.
All restaurants were fully booked until 9pm every evening. Another guest told us that his travel agent warned him of this probability and he booked tables in advance. Luckily we had a hire car which is necessary if not eating at the hotel as the nearest town San Juan is a few miles away.
The breakfast was superb and extensive.
The staff are all very friendly and the level of service is fantastic.
We went for the Tennis. The quality of the courts is brilliant and the standard up to ITF requirements with 7 metres behind the baseline and 4 metres run-off outside of the doubles lines. However there was no net stick to adjust the net to the correct height.

First foremost one could not wish for more obliging & helpful staff nothing seemed too much trouble, butwe did not appreciate staying in a luxury hotel and have to queue each morning to be seated for 10 minutes or so. The choice for breakfast was outstanding ,just poorly organised.& delivered. Again we did not welcome having to book almost 4 or 5 days in advance to obtain a table in the restaurant of ones choice. Altogether we thought the restaurants no more than acceptable for a food choice value ratio and the wines downright expensive and the decor in several bordering on being similar to mainland Spanish Tapas or bodega standards without the advantage of being as cheap & cheerful. The Japanese restaurant being the exception to this comment. Our villa was very comfortable , nicely arranged , and scrupulously maintained during our stay. The outside amenities are good sadly we did not have the advantage of using them very much as the weather was not very conducive to lounging around (late Nov). All in all somewhat disappointing choice.

This is a fantastic hotel. The facilities, rooms, pool, tennis courts and beach area - all stunning and in great, clean and modern condition. The choice of restaurants and the quality of those restaurants is seriously impressive. We ate at the Michelin 2 star - fabulous, beach restaurant - lovely, pool restaurant - superb, Italian - v good quality and the Tapas bar - great fun. The buffet breakfast was outstanding also. And the staff everywhere in the hotel were just delightful - friendly, helpful and charming. We would love to go back and have already recommended it (and Travelbeam!) to others.

Our party of 15 had a marvellous time. My wife and I could not fault the hotel or its facilities, given the exigencies of half term week. the transfers were on time and comfortable, our room was superb, the experience at M.B. restaurant was amazing, the spa was excellent, breakfast in Los Choros was well executed and dinner in El Mirador was very enjoyable. We dined in three restaurants in San Juan, all of which are recommended.

Unfortunately the Japanese was closed and the golf course was having work done. I would say that the hotel needs to work on the smaller restaurants. The Italian and Argentinian are not very good at all. Plus the lunch at the pool areas needs work. Saying that the beach cafe, the tapas bar and M&B were excellent. Staff are fantastic.

We were return guests at the Abama and stayed in the Tagor Villas. The staff welcome was wonderful. In fact, I would say that the staff really helped to make our stay all the more wonderful. The villa rooms are fantastic and ours lead onto the pool. Staff very attentive and really helpful with booking the restaurants within the hotel complex. The El Mirador was excellent. We had a great table on the veranda with a wonderful view of La Gomera. A special mention to Verona, we visited this restaurant last year and were not that impressed, but, we booked a table this time as we love Italian food, and could not fault the food. Again, excellent. As a couple, we find the Tagor Villas, a great location for a wonderful, relaxing holiday. We also had an evening in the Cubanika Bar, which is new this year and really enjoyed the music and the ambience of this.We also met guests whom we have met on previous holidays to the Abama and we think this says it all about the Abama, when guests return again and again. We had to return early from our holiday because of a family situation and the staff at reception were so helpful in arranging an early flight back home. We can see ourselves returning to the Abama next September as we think it would be hard to find another hotel which could offer us the same type of holiday.

Wonderful hotel, very child friendly, the staff are very willing to help. when there was a minor problem it was met instantly with an apology and usually a small gift!Good choice of restaurants, dedicated adults pool if you need to get away from the children and a furnicular ride or buggy or a train to the private beach below the hotel...great snorkelling! If I had to be picky, there is a limited amount for tens to be interested in and the hotel could do with a club house/ games room or two for them.This was my (and my family)second stay at the Abama and we would definitely go back again.

This was our second visit to this lovely hotel and prior to arriving the hotel emailed us to ask if we had any specific requirements relating to our stay. I requested a quiet room stating I had young children that would not benefit from being too near any late night entertainment. I had also read in past reviews to request this as some people have had rooms next to the lift so I wanted to avoid this problem. When we arrived at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded to to a sea view room as a thankyou for being a repeat guest. Unfortunately lafer that evening we realised we had been put next to the lift and neither of us got a lot of sleep that night due to the lift zooming constantly through to the early hours of the morning. We mentioned this to the staff the next morning but were told we could not move rooms till the next day so we had another disturbing night and then moved to a similar room. That night we were woken up to the sound if an exploding drain which continued to make exploding noises through the night! We complained to the staff the next morning who said they would look into the problem. Thankfully the problem was rectified the same day. The rest if the holiday was lovely, and the staff friendly and helpful. The service in the bar and restaurants was slow on some occasions but we were fine to wait as on holiday.

The Abama has become a firm favourite with our family and an annual visit. Our boys are 10, 8 and 7. We always take a villa 1 bed suite with an interconnecting twin, one row back from Le Mirador. `its really perfect accommodation. The pools around the villas are always much quieter and you can`t fault the service there either. The main pool is great for those with smaller kids who can`t swim yet due to the shallow beach like.
It`s perfect. The kids love the golf buggy that you get with the villa and we used it a lot to get around the resort, although unfortunately they no longer are able to run down to the beach, which was a pain as the lift was out of service for a lot of the visit.We nearly always eat at Le Mirador, beautiful views, great food and the kids get to play with the other kids on the lawn in front of the restaurant. This used to be encouraged but the staff were actively trying to discourage because not all the guests without kids appreciated it. I we did mention that the staff needed to decide if it was a family restaurant or adults onlyBuffet breakfast is good, but can get busy if you get there much later than 9. We used to go the Pine Cliffs in Portugal but there really is no comparison for quality and comfort between the two.

Had a wonderful time with our 19 year old boys, staying at the Tagor Villas. This is like staying at a hotel within a hotel! It is incredibly relaxing and peaceful and the service provided by Julio and the team of concierge is second to none. Our sea facing suite was lovely and breakfast at the Mirador, away from small children was worth the extra cost of upgrading the rooms. The food generally through out the hotel was good although expensive and my only complaint is that they could do with a more varied and cheaper lunch menu at least one of the restaurants for feeding ever hungry teenagers.

Overall the hotel was a good one with excellent facilities great rooms and on the whole decent service. The issue here is the restaurants, at lunch there is only one accessible to the main hotel and it gets so busy an hour wait can be the norm. Poolside service is slow at best and prices for food and drink ridiculous. 5 euros for a 12oz soft drink is crazy. Booking restaurants of a night is a pain and even arriving very early at 6pm with kids into an empty restaurant won`t get you a seat unless you booked. The grill restaurant was booked for the week meaning you just couldn`t go. Wifi speed is terrible unless you pay but at £20 euros a day or £140 for the week just not acceptable. Overall these niggles mean we would not return.

This was our fourth visit to the Abama and we felt that this year they had "upped their game". The service, the food and the overall feel of the place had improved and my rating has gone from "very good" last time to "excellent" this time. However, I wouldn`t advise people without children to stay there in English school holiday season, it is very family friendly indeed, which means that the place is very full of happy, but noisy, children. We also liked the "wine deal" in the Veranda restaurant whereby you pay a fixed fee for as much wine as you wanted, albeit this was limited to "house wines", as the wine list is pricey.

We`d been to the Abama nearly 4 years ago, and was good to see it is still an outstanding hotel and not tired in any way. We did not use the kids club at all since our two young girls had a terrific time by the pool. The temperature outdoors and in the pool were perfect and everyone had a superb time. Breakfast was excellent and if you went at a decent hour e.g 8:30-9:15 it was great, later and it started to be a bit crazy with so many people around and difficult to get seating outside. Our suite was lovely - spacious and beautiful. We had booked restaurants in advance which you need to do, and the food was consistently of good standard. Service was excellent and despite being in a huge hotel it did not feel like that and our kids built up great friendships with other children.

Having been to the Abama twice before our visit this year, we were very pleased with the standard of rooms, friendliness of the staff and the lovely setting of the hotel. It really does provide a very relaxing easy holdiay that suits the children (aged 9 and 11) and adults very well. The only disappointment compared to last time was the change to the mirador pool, which is now adult only. It was a real gem when we went before and was never really noisy or rowdy even with children there, but the `new` childrens pool up by the main hotel was barely used as it is too small and not interesting enough for children unless very young. The only other disappointing thing was the major change to the half board childrens food options. Previously one of the big pluses was the good quality and more importantly the variety of the food options for the children on the half board option. Now it is the same limited choices at all the restaurants, ehich is very disapointing particularly if you are there for 10 days as the children dont want or need to eat pizza or pasta every day for 10 days! Having said that the staff were very happy to let my 11 choose themodd thing from the main menu without any extra charge which was very kind. Hopefully these things will be improved. These issues would not stop us going again, as the positives of the hotel definitely outweight these two changes. Beautiful beach, lovely spacious very comfortable rooms, friendly staff, lots of space etc. we hired a car and visited the national park which was fabulous and also spent a day at Siam Park, which whilst not cheap was well worth the money but the fast pass is a must!

From the moment we arrived at Abama we were well looked after by the staff and made to feel very welcome. We chose to stay in the Tagor villas as we were after a quiet, relaxing break away from children and this is exactly what we had. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean overlooking the gardens and pool. We enjoyed the pool service where we were served complimentary drinks and small appetizers throughout the day. We loved having a leisurely breakfast at the Mirador restaurant each morning overlooking the ocean with stunning views. Staff at Abama were polite, attentive and friendly with a special mention to our breakfast waitress, Magda, who got to know what we liked to eat and where we preferred to sit in the Mirador restaurant. The thermal spa circuit was very relaxing and the gym was well equipped. We did use our buggy to get around the resort most of the time though! There is a good choice of restaurants and bars. Overall we found Abama a wonderful place for a couple to have a few days together and relax. We hope to return next year!

We recently stayed at the Abama for two weeks. During the second week my 8 year old son became ill. The staff and management were helpful in the utmost- from sending a taxi at 2:00 am to a pharmacy to get the Spanish equivalent of `Calpol`and then organising a doctor who was able to examine my son later that morning. Regular `phone calls were made to our room to enquire if we or he needed anything else. Our sincere thanks goes out to them all.
